Overview
I organized a half-day workshop on Digital Course Content Development and e-Learning Activities through the e-Learning Management Unit (eLMU) Directorate, in collaboration with the Office of the Academic Vice President at Wollega University on October 27, 2025.
The workshop brought together instructors assigned for online and hybrid course content development, Heads of Departments, Vice Deans, and Deans from the University’s three campuses: Nekemte, Shambu, and Gimbi. The program aimed to create awareness of institutional and national digital education initiatives, strengthen leadership engagement, and enhance the effective implementation of online and blended learning through the University’s Learning Management System (LMS).
My Role
As Director of the e-Learning Management Unit (eLMU), I led the planning and organization of the workshop and delivered the opening technical session entitled “Overview of Digital Education Strategy and Implementation Plan.”
My presentation covered:
- Wollega University’s Digital Education Strategy and Implementation Plan.
- The e-Learning Management Unit (eLMU) 2018 E.C. Annual Plan.
- Institutional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for digital learning.
- Effective utilization of the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Digital course content development for online and blended learning.
- Institutional data management, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms.
- National and institutional directions for digital transformation in higher education.
The workshop also featured a technical session by Dr. Berhanu B. Sura, who presented “Transitioning Courses to Blended and Online Formats,” and experience-sharing sessions by Certified Trainers of Trainers (ToTs). The event was facilitated by Mr. Tadele Debisa, ensuring active participation from both in-person and virtual attendees.
Workshop Outcomes
Participants strengthened their understanding of:
- Institutional strategies for digital education and e-learning implementation.
- Principles of online and blended course design.
- Effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Leadership roles in advancing digital transformation.
- National policies and institutional priorities for technology-enhanced education.
- Best practices for developing high-quality digital course content.
Impact
The workshop strengthened institutional awareness and leadership commitment toward digital education across Wollega University’s three campuses. It aligned academic leaders and instructors with the university’s e-learning strategy, encouraged greater utilization of the Learning Management System, and supported the ongoing implementation of online and blended learning initiatives.
Reflection
Organizing this workshop provided an important opportunity to bring together academic leaders and instructors around a shared vision for digital transformation. Sustainable implementation of online and blended education requires not only appropriate technology but also institutional leadership, collaboration, and continuous capacity building. I believe this workshop marked an important step toward strengthening Wollega University’s digital education ecosystem.
